Various Types of Compactor Rollers include Single Drum, Double Drum, Padfoot, and Pneumatic Tire Rollers.
Single drum rollers are the most common type of heavy-duty roller. These rollers typically have a front steel drum and one or two wheels for the rear axle and are typically used for foundations, paving highways, and compacting surfaces. Double Drum Rollers have two steel drums versus one single drum and excel with the vibratory roller feature.
Padfoot Rollers (Tamping Rollers or Sheepsfoot Rollers) feature shaped lugs known as feet and are primarily used for compacting soil and silty clay in road construction work. Some models have a counterweight increasing pressure providing more weight to the roller.
Surface aggregates needing grinding at depth are ideal for this for Padfoot Rollers and typically finished with a pneumatic tire roller.
Pneumatic tire rollers feature large, several rows of rubber tires on the front and rear end. The rubber tires provide uniform pressure throughout the width of the tires. Typically used for paving to smooth out and finish off a paving project, and are also used for cold-laid bituminous or cold mixed pavements and layers of loose soil.
