KCM, formerly Kawasaki Construction Machinery, entered the North American construction equipment market in 1962. The Japanese company released its first wheel loader to the North American market in 1978 and in 2010 entered into a joint venture with Hitachi to aid in the development of Tier 4 Final engine loaders.
