ALE<\/a> has enhanced its cranes \ufb02eet with the latest development from Liebherr,<\/a> the LR 1750\/2<\/a> crane. The new wide boom system has been purchased specially to undertake the handling scope for the Siemens \u2018Crane Framework Agreement\u2019 starting in the UK in September 2016.<\/p>\n

The wide boom system provides a cost effective solution and allows ALE to minimize the need for larger crawler cranes. With the higher lifting capacities, the crane will enable ALE to handle heavier and longer tower sections for the project during the upending and placement of tower sections onto tower frames in preparation for collection by the offshore vessels.<\/p>\n

Liebherr has modified its LR 1750 crawler crane with the upgraded 750-tonne LR 1750\/2<\/a> model now available. By strengthening the main boom and adjusting the derrick system the crane’s load capacity has been increased in some areas by up to 30%. This means that the crane offers much better value for money.<\/p>\n

The adjustment of the derrick system includes an extension of the derrick boom by 7 m to 38.5 m. As with the “H boom kit” for the LR 1600\/2, the strengthened boom systems on the LR 1750\/2<\/a> together with the derrick system has been given the suffix “H” (Heavy) which stands for powerful, heavy boom systems.<\/p>\n

The ballast trailer has also been modified as part of the modification to the Liebherr 750-tonne crawler crane. This now has a hydraulic drive unit which means improved handling. The new LR 1750\/2<\/a> also provides enhanced safety for the operating personnel since the crane has additional platforms and access points and its railings have also been extended and improved.<\/p>\n

During its modification of the LR 1750 Liebherr ensured that the existing equipment components can also be used on the new LR 1750\/2<\/a>. This is a major benefit for crane contractors who already operate one or more LR 1750 cranes in their fleets.<\/p>\n
