{"id":8693,"date":"2016-11-18T13:38:07","date_gmt":"2016-11-18T13:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/?p=8693"},"modified":"2016-11-18T13:38:07","modified_gmt":"2016-11-18T13:38:07","slug":"e200m-plus-order-for-86-konecranes-automatic-stacking-cranes-approved-by-virginia-port-authority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/e200m-plus-order-for-86-konecranes-automatic-stacking-cranes-approved-by-virginia-port-authority\/","title":{"rendered":"\u20ac200m plus order for 86 Konecranes Automatic Stacking Cranes approved by Virginia Port Authority"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Board of Commissioners of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portofvirginia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Virginia Port Authority<\/a> approved the award of contracts to Konecranes for 86 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.konecranes.com\/equipment\/container-handling-equipment\/automated-rmg-armg-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Automated Stacking Cranes (ASCs)<\/a> in two contracts.<\/p>\n<p>The first 60 Automatic Stacking Cranes go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portofvirginia.com\/facilities\/norfolk-international-terminals-nit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Norfolk International Terminals<\/a> and the second 26 ASCs go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portofvirginia.com\/facilities\/vig\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Virginia International Gateway<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Port of Virginia, is the fifth largest port in the USA and has experienced record growth over the past two years and is in the midst of two large-scale infrastructure projects at its largest container terminals.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Virginia Governor Terry R. McAuliffe said, \u201cOnce the construction is done and these cranes are in place and operational, our port will have the capacity to process an additional 1 million containers annually, have the channel depth to handle the biggest ships in the Atlantic trade and double-stack rail service offered by Norfolk Southern and CSX to some of the nation\u2019s most important markets.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>The Virginia concept is the benchmark<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mika Mahlberg, Senior Vice President, Head of BU Port Cranes, Konecranes, added: \u201cKonecranes supplied the Port of Virginia\u2019s current automated stacking crane system in 2007. The concept we developed with the Port of Virginia at the time, the \u2018Virginia Concept\u2019, has established itself as the benchmark around the world. Since 2007, every new automated stacking crane container terminal has used the Virginia Concept to a greater or lesser degree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strong in the USA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The USA is a strategically important country for Konecranes across many industries, including container handling.
