{"id":6729,"date":"2016-09-14T13:26:11","date_gmt":"2016-09-14T13:26:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/?p=6729"},"modified":"2016-09-14T13:26:11","modified_gmt":"2016-09-14T13:26:11","slug":"iraqi-port-has-taken-delivery-of-two-new-post-panamax-cranes-and-three-rubber-tired-gantry-cranes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/iraqi-port-has-taken-delivery-of-two-new-post-panamax-cranes-and-three-rubber-tired-gantry-cranes\/","title":{"rendered":"Iraqi Port has taken delivery of two new post-panamax cranes and three Rubber Tired Gantry Cranes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basra-gateway.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Basra Gate Terminal<\/a> (BGT) has taken delivery of two new post-panamax cranes and three RTGs as the first phase of the Iraq port\u2019s US $130m greenfield project moves closer to full operation.<\/p>\n<p>The Hanjin Pioneer tied up to the new Berth 27 at the International Container Terminal Services Inc- (ICTSI) operated North Port in Umm Qasr with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terex.com\/port-solutions\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terex<\/a> cranes late Thursday following a 7,000nm voyage from Xiamen, China.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zC09vEX0mE8<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arabiansupplychain.com\/article-12696-basra-gate-terminal-gets-two-new-post-panamax-cranes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arabian Supply Chain<\/a> reports, commissioning of the ship to shore cranes and RTGs will take approximately four weeks after which BGT will have two containerised berths together with new general and project cargo operations at nearby Berth 19, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seatrade-maritime.com\/news\/iraq-terminal-welcomes-new-cranes.html\">BGT told Seatrade<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBGT is well positioned to take Umm Qasr Port to new levels in the business development in Iraq\u2026this is a proud day for BGT and Iraq,\u201d said CEO Phillip Marsham.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOur investment in cutting edge shipping technology and infrastructure will allow us to offer our customers the most efficient route and easy access to Iraqi market,\u201d he added. \u201cWe are hoping to give customers a completely new experience of doing business.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Philippines niche port operator ICTSI signed a 26-year concession with the General Company for Ports of Iraq in 2014 to develop and operate three new berths under the BGT moniker, in addition to a 10-year agreement to redevelop the existing Berth 20.<\/p>\n<p>Each stage of the greenfield expansion, the first public-private port sector partnership in Iraq, will add 300,000 teu capacity, 200,000sq mtr of container storage and two gantry cranes.<\/p>\n<p>Umm Qasr port handles 80% of the Iraq\u2019s imports including grain for a huge public food ration program. With a hinterland that extends to the capital city of Baghdad, Umm Qasr is critical in combating the country\u2019s well-documented geopolitical challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the global challenges in shipping in general, combined with the specific conditions in Iraq, we feel the commercial opportunities are very attractive as the country rebuilds its infrastructure and continues to develop,\u201d Marsham said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarket indicators are showing a general growth of over 15% in Umm Qasr in the container sector in 2016 and as such there is a high confidence for further development over the coming years.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Basra Gate Terminal (BGT) has taken delivery of two new post-panamax cranes and three RTGs as the first phase of the Iraq port\u2019s US $130m greenfield project moves closer to full operation.
