It\u2019s official. A new 75-foot bridge has been lifted in to place at Brookhaven\u2019s Briarwood Park. Southway Crane and Rigging<\/a> literally threaded the new 3-ton bridge through a narrow slit between several tall Pine and Poplar trees Wednesday morning,\u00a0via\u00a0150-foot Link-Belt<\/a> truck crane.\u00a0The bridge, designed by consultant GreenbergFarrow, was constructed by Cline Service Corporation, who also acted as project manager for the install.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am excited to see this and the Murphey Candler bridge replacement projects nearing completion,\u201d Mayor John Ernst told The Post . \u201cBoth of the new structures are well constructed and should serve Brookhaven residents for many years to come. I am looking forward to more projects being done.\u201d<\/p>\n

In January, the\u00a0City Council unanimously approved an amount not to exceed $336,790 to replace both the Briarwood Park Bridge and the Murphey Candler Park Nature Trail Bridge, which has also been delivered and set in place.\u00a0Back in May, Brookhaven Councilmembers voted unanimously to award\u00a0Cline the\u00a0$195,000 contract to replace Briarwood\u2019s\u00a0pedestrian bridge.<\/p>\n

During the next couple of weeks, the finishing touches will be completed at Briarwood and Murphey Candler. The City says they expect there will be ceremonial ribbon cuttings when the bridges are officially open for pedestrian traffic.<\/p>\n
