Terex Port Solutions<\/a> (TPS) is supplying a diesel-electric Terex Gottwald Model 2<\/a> mobile harbour crane in the G HMK 2304 two-rope variant and a Terex Stackace E 6-8<\/a> empty container handler to the Belgian river port of Li\u00e8ge. The two cargo-handling machines will start commercial operation in September 2016 at the trimodal terminal of Li\u00e8ge Container Terminal SA (LCT)<\/a> situated on the River Meuse. They will contribute to increasing handling volume and thus help LCT to extend its market position further in the long term.<\/strong><\/em>

\nLCT responds with new investment to achieve growing handling volumes <\/strong>
\nThe Model 2 crane for LCT has a powerful lifting capacity curve and a maximum lifting capacity of 80 t, an outreach up to 40 m and a maximum hoist speed of 85 m\/min. The empty container handler with a load capacity of up to 8 t offers a stacking height of 1-over-6 standard empty containers.<\/p>\n

Nicolas Limbioul, General Manager, LCT: \u201cThe Port of Li\u00e8ge is one of the top 3 river ports in Europe. Our terminal is currently the only container terminal in Li\u00e8ge and the only trimodal terminal in the whole of Wallonia. This market position together with our favorable location at the interface between southern Belgium, northern France and western Germany, as well as the North Sea ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Zeebrugge, have increased our handling volumes to 40,000 TEUs in the past year. Since we are anticipating as many as 70,000 TEUs on waterways and 45.000 TEUs by rail for 2016, we decided on the handling solution comprising a mobile harbour crane and an empty container handler from TPS. With this new investment we are also in a good position to meet long-term challenges.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

High handling capacity, greater versatility, new opportunities<\/strong>
\nThe crane and empty container handler will be used on the 300-m-long quay, on which only a rail-mounted gantry crane with 50 t lifting capacity has been working to date. In comparison to the\u00a0gantry crane, besides the considerably higher capacity, the G HMK 2304 crane offers the versatility typical of the mobile harbour crane. Thanks to higher lifting capacities, even at a greater outreach, the new machine for LCT can also load and unload two adjacent inland water vessels (transshipment). This was not possible previously. The new crane will therefore also make it possible for the terminal to extend its activities to include transshipment. With the Model 2 crane, since 2012, smaller terminals have also been able to benefit from the strengths of the technology. We are delighted that Model 2 cranes are becoming increasingly popular in river ports. The fact that an established and rapidly growing terminal operator such as LCT has also opted for our empty container handler in addition to the crane, highlights our position as a supplier of integrated systems.\u201c<\/p>\n

Model 2 also in demand as a portal harbour crane and rubber-tyred portal harbour crane <\/strong>
\nThe order from LCT is already the third order that TPS has received within a few months for Model 2 cranes from its small crane family. The fact that these include machines for container handling as well as bulk and general cargo handling emphasize the versatility of the crane. In addition to conventional mobile harbour cranes with a rubber-tyred chassis, two of which, besides the crane for Li\u00e8ge, will be delivered to Great Britain in the fall, the other crane types of Model 2 are also in demand. Customers have ordered a portal harbour crane with a rail-mounted portal adapted to the local infrastructure for handling coal in Argentina, and a rubber-tyred portal harbour crane for container handling in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
