Based on the photo the operator had little training in power line safety or disregarded the hazard.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/10000-seattleites-lose-power-in-central-district\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KOMO News<\/a> reports, A crew was replacing a roof on a century-old home when a subcontractor operating a crane tangled with power lines. Contact with the power like scorched the knuckleboom pallet crane where it touched the lines and the cab of the truck completely blown out. If so, the employer must take one of the following actions:<\/p>\n<p>(a) Confirm with the power company that the line is de-energized and visibly grounded at the worksite.<br \/>\n(b) Make sure no part gets within 20 feet of the power line<br \/>\n(c) Follow <strong>Table A<\/strong>, which has minimum clearance distances based on voltage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4919\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/seattle-material-handler-crane-3.jpg\" alt=\"seattle-material-handler-crane-3\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/seattle-material-handler-crane-3.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/seattle-material-handler-crane-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/seattle-material-handler-crane-3-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/seattle-material-handler-crane-3-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/seattle-material-handler-crane-3-1080x608.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If the line is not de-energized, the employer must take the following actions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct a meeting with the assembly\/disassembly crew to review measures to prevent encroachment.<\/li>\n<li>Use only nonconductive tag lines<\/li>\n<li>Use a dedicated spotter, a proximity alarm, a range control warning device, an automatic limit device or an elevated warning line\/barrier placed in view of the crane operator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.signs.org\/Portals\/0\/images\/technical\/common_power_distribution_lines_300w.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"379\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" vspace=\"0\" \/>Cranes cannot be assembled\/disassembled below an energized power line or within the <strong>Table A<\/strong> clearances from a power line. If <strong>Table A<\/strong> is used, the owner\/utility must provide the power line voltage to the employer within two days of a request.<\/p>\n<p>Power lines must be assumed to be energized until they are confirmed to be de-energized and visibly grounded. If the line is not de-energized, a meeting must also be held with the crew before operations begin to review the location of the lines and procedures to prevent encroachment.
