The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Osman_Gazi_Bridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Osman Gazi Bridge<\/a>, a 2,682-meter long structure, is the fourth-longest suspension bridge in the world and the second longest in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Construction and operation of the bridge was awarded to a joint venture formed by five Turkish companies (<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Nurol Construction\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nurol.com.tr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nurol<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ozaltin.com.tr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00d6zalt\u0131n<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.makyol.com.tr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Makyol<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yuksel.net\/index.php?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Y\u00fcksel<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/gocay.com.tr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gocay<\/a>) and one Italian construction company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.astaldi.com\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Astaldi<\/a> following the international Build\u2013operate\u2013transfer tender that took place in April 2009. Engineering, Procurement and construction management was awarded to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ihi.co.jp\/iis\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IHI Infrastructure System Co.<\/a> who subcontracted\u00a0 design works to Danish engineering design firm <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cowi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COWI A\/S<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4911\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-1.jpg\" alt=\"suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-1\" width=\"1776\" height=\"930\" srcset=\"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-1.jpg 1776w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-1-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-1-768x402.jpg 768w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-1-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-1-1080x566.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1776px) 100vw, 1776px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The bridge aims to drastically cut travel time between Istanbul and the country\u2019s western provinces.<\/p>\n<p>The construction of the quake-resistant bridge began in 2010.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/onvqjOvmGlY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It was inaugurated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.<\/p>\n<p>Erdogan and Yildirim have for years championed expanding the country&#8217;s airport and road facilities in order to achieve better connectivity between provinces.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4912\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-2.jpg\" alt=\"suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-2\" width=\"1764\" height=\"921\" srcset=\"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-2.jpg 1764w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-2-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-2-768x401.jpg 768w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-2-1024x535.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/suspension-bridge-construction-turkey-2-1080x564.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1764px) 100vw, 1764px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The bridge lies in the southern shore of the Marmara Sea along the route of the new six-lane Istanbul-Izmir Highway Project, which cost around $6.3 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The 421-kilometer\u00a0 long highway will cut the average journey time between Izmir and Istanbul from 10 hours to approximately four hours.<\/p>\n<p>The new bridge and highway will also mean that the drive-time between the country&#8217;s second busiest Sabiha Airport and the eastern province of the Bursa Province would be less than an hour.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"irc_mi iVTdPNVupCh8-pQOPx8XEepE\" src=\"http:\/\/www.asphaltandrubber.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Kenan-Sofuo%C4%9Flu-Kawasaki-Ninja-H2R-Osman-Gazi-Bridge-400-kmh-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"393\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Turkey&#8217;s superstar professional motorcycle racer Kenan Sofuoglu, set a new record at the inauguration ceremony.
