The chairman of construction firm JCB <\/a>has written to his 6,000-strong UK workforce to explain why he’s in favour of leaving the EU.<\/p>\n

Lord Bamford says he voted to stay in the Common Market in 1975 but did not vote for a political union.<\/p>\n

Lord Bamford is chairman of JCB, one of the country\u2019s leading manufacturers. But he\u2019s not just that. In a hammer blow to David Cameron\u2019s credibility, he\u2019s also one of the Conservative Party\u2019s leading donors. Over the past 15 years JCB has given \u00a33.7million to the Conservatives.And it was at JCB\u2019s Staffordshire headquarters 18 months ago that Mr Cameron made his pledge to curb migration by limiting benefits. The JCB boss says that the UK is the fifth biggest economy in the world so could survive on its own.<\/p><\/div>\n

\u00a0As he writes, the EU is of \u201cdiminishing economic importance\u201d.<\/div>\n

\u00a0He points out: \u201cThe UK is a trading nation and the fifth largest economy in the world. I am confident we can stand on our own two feet.\u201dThe real point is that the EU is simply not the be all and end all that the Remain campaign would have us believe. By restricting ourselves to a declining EU we hinder our ability to build trade with other growing markets.As Lord Bamford puts it: \u201cIn 1973, when we joined as its eighth member, the EU accounted for 31 per cent of world economic output. Today \u2013 with 28 member countries \u2013 the figure is just 17 per cent, which underlines the shrinking role of the EU in the world economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/section>\n

And he exposes the idiocy of the idea that if we leave the EU we will not be able to trade with it: \u201cOne thing I\u2019m certain of is this: JCB will continue to trade with Europe, irrespective of whether we remain in or leave the EU.\u201d<\/section>\n

With one letter, Lord Bamford has exposed that as yet another distortion by Project Fear. We are now just two weeks away from the day when the huffing and puffing comes to an end. Bring it on.Lord Bamford speaks for many who supported the idea of a common market, that made trade easier, but who have seen that morph into a European Union.<\/p>\n

As he writes: \u201cI voted to stay in the Common Market in 1975. I did not vote for a political union. I did not expect us to hand over sovereignty to the EU.\u201d<\/p>\n
