{"id":3184,"date":"2016-05-19T17:37:02","date_gmt":"2016-05-19T17:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/?p=3184"},"modified":"2016-05-19T17:37:02","modified_gmt":"2016-05-19T17:37:02","slug":"caterpillar-retail-sales-drop-12-in-first-three-months-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/caterpillar-retail-sales-drop-12-in-first-three-months-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Caterpillar retail sales drop 12% in first three months of the year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/caterpillar-retail-sales-drop-12-in-first-three-month-of-the-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mining.com<\/a> reports world&#8217;s number one heavy equipment manufacturer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cat.com\/en_ZA.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Caterpillar <\/a>(NYSE:CAT) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/18230\/000110465916121984\/a16-11385_18k.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">logged Thursday retail machines sales results<\/a> for the first three month of the year, which were down 12% compared to the same period of 2015, making it the 41 straight month of sales declines.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><q class=\"pullQuote-right\">Results mark the 41 straight month of retail sales declines.<\/q><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Energy and transportation led the drop, down 34%. Resources industries sales followed close, recording a 28% fall, while sales to the construction industries were down 7% in the period.<\/p>\n<p>With sales and operations at the ends of the earth, few companies are in a better position to take the pulse of the global economy and the resource sector in particular than Caterpillar.<\/p>\n<p>The Peoria, Illinois-based firm has been hit hard by the decline in mining and construction \u2014 global sales are down more than $20 billion from its peak just four years ago after a drop of over $8 billion last year.<\/p>\n<p>Caterpillar, which has taken\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/caterpillar-to-axe-10000-jobs-over-next-three-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dramatic cost-cutting measures in the last three years<\/a>,\u00a0has said it expects <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caterpillar.com\/content\/dam\/caterpillarDotCom\/releases\/4Q15%20Caterpillar%20Inc.%20Results.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">another 10% decline in revenue<\/a> in 2016 to around $42 billion, but executives still can&#8217;t predict a bottom for the industry.<\/p>\n<p>CAT shares were down 1.7% to $69.37 in New York at 11:29 am ET.\u00a0The $40 billion company&#8217;s stock is up 2% this year though.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Posts by Cecilia Jamasmie\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/author\/cecilia\/\" rel=\"author\">Cecilia Jamasmie<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mining.com reports world&#8217;s number one heavy equipment manufacturer Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT) logged Thursday retail machines sales results for the first three month of the year, which were down 12% compared to the same period of 2015, making it the 41 straight month of sales declines.
