Five, sometimes six, days a week John Hentz walked the six-mile roundtrip from his home in Clifton to his job as a leather roller at the American Oak Leather Co. He worked as what was known in the trade as a belly rubber, stretching and scraping just-tanned abdominal hides.\u00a0<span class=\"credit\">(Photo: The Enquirer\/Glenn Hartong)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<div class=\"clearfix\">\u00a0Fourteen moved to the airport, which has been their sanctuary for more than 40 years.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/orourkewrecking.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">O&#8217;Rourke Wrecking<\/a> is using a similar process to move them Saturday with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maximcrane.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maxim Crane<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Packing the 20-by-20-foot piece\u00a0starts with a thin layer, a gentle fabric that&#8217;s like a cheese cloth to cover its face. Then, some foam insulation. Next comes the plywood.<\/p>\n<p>A steel frame is added after, using a structural steel that&#8217;s a bit heavier than what was used in 1973. That&#8217;s to prevent cracking.<\/p>\n<p>The protective packing adds about 8 tons of weight to the already massive works.<\/p>\n<p>Central Avenue between Fifth and Sixths streets will close Saturday to accommodate the two cranes required to move the pieces.\u00a0The closure is from 6 a.m. until about 8 p.m. On-street parking will also be prohibited there.<\/p>\n<p>Closures may continue Sunday at those times if the move is not complete.<\/p>\n<p>The unveiling and final installation of the nine works are not expected until later this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cincinnati.com\/staff\/35229\/carol-motsinger\/\" rel=\"author\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"asset-metabar-avatar\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gannett-cdn.com\/-mm-\/3357762b0fa9d7462aada298c5944fb49217fd2f\/c=804-186-4018-3400&amp;r=1024x1024&amp;r=26&amp;c=26x26\/local\/-\/media\/2015\/02\/12\/Cincinnati\/Cincinnati\/635593624469905938-Carol-Motsinger-happy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"26\" height=\"26\" \/> Carol Motsinger<\/a>, cmotsinger@enquirer.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 1973, the murals had to be saved.
