The National Heavy Vehicle Regulato<\/a>r (NHVR) and the Palaszczuk Government are slashing red tape for the Queensland construction industry with the announcement today business will no longer have to apply for permits to move cranes or special purpose vehicles on state-controlled roads.<\/p>\n

Minister for Transport Stirling Hinchliffe welcomed the decision to grant pre-approved road access for special purpose vehicles and said it would boost productivity in the construction industry and support jobs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith these changes business will no longer have to complete unnecessary extra paperwork or delay progress on a construction project to wait for a permit,\u201d Mr Hinchliffe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will bring nearly $55 million in benefits to construction businesses in Queensland over the next 20 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder the old process business had to wait as long as 28 days for a permit to move a mobile crane or a concrete pump, which was a massive handbrake on industry productivity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe safe transport of these types of vehicles is vital to grow Queensland\u2019s economy and this new ruling will drive efficiency and help accelerate building progress across the state, supporting more construction jobs.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mr Hinchliffe made the announcement at Universal Cranes<\/a> at Murrarie, one of Australia\u2019s largest privately-owned crane hire companies.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy slashing unnecessary paperwork, businesses across the state will benefit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

CEO Sal Petroccitto said the NHVR has developed the Notice in collaboration with the Australian Local Government Association, State Road Authorities, the Crane Industry Council of Australia and the Concrete Pumping Association of Australia.<\/p>\n

\u201cOperators of cranes and concrete pumps that meet the strict standards will be given greater access certainty which will improve efficiency for this essential industry segment,\u201d Mr Petroccitto said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NHVR estimates the Notice will remove approximately 1,600 permits each year in Queensland alone.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have assessed that more than 98 percent of the productivity gains will be related to decreased vehicle downtime and reduced administration costs.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the next 20 years, we will remove $130 million in costs that would otherwise flow on to all Australians.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crane Industry Council of Australia CEO Brandon Hitch also welcomed the prospect of simplified and harmonised Special Purpose Vehicle access conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Notice will progressively become the reference document for the operation of more than 1,200 mobile cranes currently operating in Queensland and more than 3000 mobile cranes currently operating in participating jurisdictions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
