ALE Heavy Lift<\/a> has successfully installed the new span 19 bridge deck, which forms part of an existing viaduct DSE\/146, in Manchester, UK.<\/p>\n

Services Required<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new bridge weighed 700t and was installed using 30 axle lines of SPMT<\/a> in a 6 file 10 configuration.<\/p>\n

ALE supplied low level trestles at the beginning of January for the new bridge to be erected on. Once erected and all of the bridge works had been completed, ALE then jacked-up the bridge to installation height.<\/p>\n

The SPMTs were rigged a few days prior to the possession into a 6 file 10 axle configuration, with additional steelwork packing to support the full length of the bridge. A trial lift was carried out prior to the installation to ensure the SPMTs were positioned correctly and the bearing between the SPMTs and packing was satisfactory.<\/p>\n

ALE landed the bridge onto the fixed bearing, before sitting it down onto a combination of bearings and pad jacks. Once landed, the SPMTs were removed from under the bridge and parked up ready for demobilization.<\/p>\n

The works formed part of the Ordsall Chord Project, which will improve rail travel between Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly Stations.<\/p>\n
