{"id":1959,"date":"2016-05-02T18:06:49","date_gmt":"2016-05-02T18:06:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/?p=1959"},"modified":"2016-05-02T18:06:49","modified_gmt":"2016-05-02T18:06:49","slug":"sales-remain-down-for-volvo-and-jlg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/sales-remain-down-for-volvo-and-jlg\/","title":{"rendered":"Sales remain down for Volvo and JLG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The parent companies of factories that make construction equipment are reporting declining sales in their most recent quarterly reports.<\/p>\n<p>Oshkosh Corp., the parent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jlg.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">JLG Industries<\/a> in McConnellsburg, PA, on Thursday reported a 23 percent decrease in sales of access equipment during the quarter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.volvogroup.com\/group\/global\/en-gb\/Pages\/group_home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Volvo Group,<\/a> the parent of Volvo Construction Equipment in Shippensburg, PA reported\u00a0last week that\u00a0sales of construction equipment were down slightly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.manitowoccranes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manitowoc Cranes<\/a>, parent of Grove U.S. in Shady Grove, PA is to announce its quarterly earnings on Wednesday. The company in mid-March had announced unspecified \u201cheadcount reductions\u201d at Grove to help increase operating efficiencies.<\/p>\n<p>Together the three original equipment manufacturers employ thousands of people directly and hundreds of others indirectly at local shops supplying them.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe industry is cyclical,\u201d said L. Michael Ross, president of the Franklin County Area Development Corp. \u201cWe\u2019re hoping it\u2019s bottomed out and will not go any deeper, and we\u2019ll start to recover.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Volvo, JLG and Grove manufacture for a complex global market.<\/p>\n<p>The construction equipment industry continued\u00a0during the most recent quarter\u00a0to decline in the Middle East and Latin America, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.volvogroup.com\/SiteCollectionDocuments\/VGHQ\/Volvo%20Group\/Investors\/Financial%20reports\/2016-q1\/q1_2016_eng.pdf\">Volvo<\/a>. Sales in Brazil and Russia remained weak. Sales in China gained some momentum ahead of new emissions rules set for April 1. The European market was up by 6 percent compared to the same period last year.
