Halifax Fire initially said there was no one in the excavator, however the provincial labour department says someone was inside but wasn’t injured.<\/p>\n
Halifax Fire did say that they believed a\u00a0man at the construction site was hit by debris but was not injured.<\/p>\n
Stillwell\u00a0was watching the demolition with his father who works as an excavator operator and they\u00a0saw the incident occur\u00a0around 12:20 p.m. He said he believed the\u00a0excavator fell about 15 to 20 feet.<\/p>\n
He says it was a scary thing to watch.<\/p>\n
“I was worried about the man in the machine and whether he was going to get out alive,” said Stillwell.<\/p>\n
\u200bAndrew Preeper, a spokesperson with the provincial labour department, says the contractor working on the project voluntarily stopped work at the site as a result of the incident.<\/p>\n
The excavator involved was stabilized and debris and other materials were removed, in a plan that was approved by department officials.<\/p>\n
Preeper says work can\u00a0now continue on the site.<\/p>\n
