{"id":1782,"date":"2016-04-29T22:02:35","date_gmt":"2016-04-29T22:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/?p=1782"},"modified":"2016-04-29T22:02:35","modified_gmt":"2016-04-29T22:02:35","slug":"tallest-machine-in-europe-brought-in-to-demolish-seaforth-tower-block","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/tallest-machine-in-europe-brought-in-to-demolish-seaforth-tower-block\/","title":{"rendered":"Tallest machine in Europe brought in to demolish Seaforth tower block"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A giant piece of machinery has arrived in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/seaforth\" data-content-type=\"section-topic\" data-type=\"inline\" data-action=\"seaforth\" data-word-count=\"1\" data-track=\"false\">Seaforth<\/a> in a bid to demolish a tower block which has stubbornly refused to fall.<\/p>\n<p>Montgomery House was supposed to come down on Sunday but <a href=\"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/index.php\/2016\/04\/26\/stubborn-seaforth-tower-defies-explosive-charges-and-fails-to-come-down-in-uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-content-type=\"live-event\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resisted three attempts to knock it down<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/players.brightcove.net\/4221396001\/6f5e7bee-4b67-41d5-ae5e-744be2490b77_default\/index.html?videoId=4870184405001\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It means residents in a nearby exclusion zone &#8211; made up of around 70 properties &#8211; have been unable to return to their homes for almost a week while the now dangerously unsafe building continues to <span class=\"skimlinks-unlinked\">stand.The<\/span> \u201csuper high-reach\u201d excavator arrived in sections on three low loaders in Seaforth last night after being transported from Glasgow, where it was being used on another job.<\/p>\n<p>Demolition company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jbryan.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">J Bryan (Victoria)<\/a> is now putting the machine together before it begins work <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/demolition-company-bring-indestructible-tower-11241682\" data-action=\"11241682\" data-content-type=\"news\" data-track=\"false\" data-type=\"inline\" data-word-count=\"8\">to bring the tower down piece by piece<\/a> .<\/p>\n<figure class=\"inline-image clearfix \">When fully assembled, the massive excavator will be taller than the 15-story tower block itself. The machine has a maximum reach of 67 meters and weighs a total of 220 tonnes.<\/figure>\n<p>J Bryan demolition manager Sean Ingram said: \u201cWe are using the tallest machine in Europe and we expect work to begin tomorrow. It will take as long as it takes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand the residents have been out of their homes for quite some time now, and we are doing everything we can to allow them to return as quickly as possible. Pic: Peter Morgan<\/p><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The exclusion zone was originally put up around Montgomery House and neighbouring Churchill House on Sunday, with residents asked to leave their homes from 9am to 12.30pm while the controlled explosion was carried out.<\/p>\n<p>Churchill House fell down in a second attempt on Sunday, but the formidable Montgomery Tower failed to fall.<\/p>\n<p>A third attempt to demolish the tower was made on Monday, but only the corner crumbled &#8211; leaving the majority of the tower intact.<\/p>\n<p>Residents living nearby <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/seaforth-families-evacuated-bungled-tower-11246542\" data-action=\"11246542\" data-content-type=\"news\" data-track=\"false\" data-type=\"inline\" data-word-count=\"6\">have still not been allowed home<\/a> and are being put up in hotels.<\/p>\n<p>They have reportedly been told to expect to be out of their homes until next Tuesday at the earliest &#8211; more than 10 days since originally moving out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A giant piece of machinery has arrived in Seaforth in a bid to demolish a tower block which has stubbornly refused to fall.
