{"id":1723,"date":"2016-04-29T02:44:33","date_gmt":"2016-04-29T02:44:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/?p=1723"},"modified":"2016-04-29T02:44:33","modified_gmt":"2016-04-29T02:44:33","slug":"1723-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/1723-2\/","title":{"rendered":"400-ton crane lifts concrete beams In New Zealand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe src='\/\/players.brightcove.net\/3921507366001\/73568996-99ce-4b17-abd9-39751fa59035_default\/index.html?videoId=4866507231001' allowfullscreen frameborder=0><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Engineer Scott Leersnyder\u200b\u00a0said moving the 90-tonne\u00a0beams\u00a0was probably the biggest lift on the Mackays\u00a0to Peka Peka section\u00a0of the $630 million\u00a0expressway project.<\/p>\n<p>They\u00a0were\u00a0trucked to the site,\u00a0then\u00a0lifted off the truck, had\u00a0seismic cushioning attached,\u00a0before being\u00a0lifted\u00a0over the river.<\/p>\n<p>The job saw the crane stretched\u00a0out to its maximum, while\u00a0keeping the beam level, before the beam\u00a0was spun\u00a0with\u00a0the help of people\u00a0on the end of ropes, and\u00a0lowered\u00a0into place between supports.<\/p>\n<p>The distance between supports on a bridge is called a span, and\u00a0Leersnyder\u00a0said there were five spans on the 180m long Waikanae bridge, each &#8220;formed&#8221;\u00a0with 11 beams.<\/p>\n<p>The latest work\u00a0filling in two spans\u00a0was set to be completed\u00a0by May 8, before the crane returned in late May to finish the beam installation.<\/p>\n<p>Project manager Alan Orange said a walking path, currently closed for\u00a0the build, could be reopened before that date if the work ran ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Work on the 18km\u00a0Mackays to Peka Peka section of the four-lane expressway is hoped to be completed by the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually it will link with Transmission Gully, which is now under construction and set to be finished by 2020, and the Peka Peka to Otaki section of the expressway to the north, which is yet to be built.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Engineer Scott Leersnyder\u200b\u00a0said moving the 90-tonne\u00a0beams\u00a0was probably the biggest lift on the Mackays\u00a0to Peka Peka section\u00a0of the $630 million\u00a0expressway project.
