{"id":141,"date":"2016-04-11T17:27:51","date_gmt":"2016-04-11T17:27:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/?p=141"},"modified":"2016-04-11T17:27:51","modified_gmt":"2016-04-11T17:27:51","slug":"mining-equipment-maker-atlas-copco-expanding-in-franklin-county-move-comes-as-texas-utah-operations-set-to-close","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/mining-equipment-maker-atlas-copco-expanding-in-franklin-county-move-comes-as-texas-utah-operations-set-to-close\/","title":{"rendered":"Mining equipment maker Atlas Copco expanding in Franklin County-Move comes as Texas, Utah operations set to close"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Swedish company that makes implements for the mining industry plans on consolidating its U.S. operations in Franklin County.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.atlascopcogroup.com\/content\/dam\/corporate\/cision\/20160323_Atlas_Copco_to_consolidate_mining_consumables_operations_in_United_States.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlas Copco today announced<\/a> that it will move jobs from Texas and Utah to its existing Fort Loudon location, where it will make unspecified investments &#8220;in people and the facility.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>About 140 people in total will be affected by the move, which is expected to begin around November and be completed in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Johan Halling, president of Stockholm-based Atlas Copco&#8217;s mining and rock excavation technique business area, said the move comes as &#8220;The mining market is going through a difficult period.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have world-class products, and this move will make us more efficient and further improve productivity for customers,&#8221; Halling said.<\/p>\n<p>Atlas Copco&#8217;s Grand Prairie, Texas, facility manufactures rock excavation products. Its Salt Lake City facility produces drill bits.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, the mining and rock excavation group employed 15,000 people at sites in Sweden, the U.S., Canada, China and India.<\/p>\n<p>The company expects the move will result in about $7.6 million of restructuring costs, which will be booked starting in the second quarter of 2016 and into 2017.<\/p>\n<p>By <a href=\"mailto:rogerd@cpbj.com\">Roger DuPuis<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Swedish company that makes implements for the mining industry plans on consolidating its U.S. operations in Franklin County.
