Konecranes<\/a> will deliver a new 1,200 ton Goliath gantry crane to Meyer Turku Oy. The design, precision drive components, electrical installation and automation system and structural components will be supplied by Konecranes, while Meyer Turku will manufacture the main girder in its own hull production. The new crane will be taken into use in May 2018. The order also includes a modernization of the Turku shipyard\u2019s current 600 ton crane, service and maintenance parts.<\/p>\n

Turku shipyard\u2019s CEO Jan Meyer <\/strong>sees the more than EUR 35 million investment as a good example of smart Finnish collaboration and adds:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first major step of our big investment program for Turku yard is becoming concrete. The new crane will allow for more industrialization and increase output capacity. The new crane will be a nice continuation of our collaboration with Konecranes that already started in the 1970\u2019s with the building of our old 600 ton crane. Building part of the crane with our own workforce will also help us smoothen our workload.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a very important order for the Finnish industry,\u201d says Panu Routila<\/strong>, CEO of Konecranes. \u201cFirst of all, it is nice to see that the lifetime of the Goliath that we delivered 40 years ago will be prolonged. We also look forward to delivering a totally new, high-tech and actually the largest gantry crane in the Nordic countries to the site. Together the two cranes will help Meyer Turku reach higher production levels.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new 1,200 ton gantry crane together with the old 600 ton crane will triple the shipyard\u2019s lifting capacity per day and will allow building and lifting bigger blocks with more outfitting.<\/p>\n

The new Goliath crane will be equipped with Konecranes TRUCONNECT\u00ae Remote monitoring, allowing Konecranes to offer expertise and help to reduce unplanned downtime, even in the harshest conditions.<\/p>\n
