{"id":11336,"date":"2017-05-30T13:55:33","date_gmt":"2017-05-30T13:55:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/?p=11336"},"modified":"2017-05-30T13:55:33","modified_gmt":"2017-05-30T13:55:33","slug":"australian-firm-is-pleased-with-the-results-the-intelligent-komatsu-d61exi-23-is-producing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/australian-firm-is-pleased-with-the-results-the-intelligent-komatsu-d61exi-23-is-producing\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian firm is pleased with the purchase of the intelligent Komatsu D61EXi-23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-paragraph\">Australia based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyanda.com.au\/home.php\">Nyanda Excavations<\/a> has specialized in excavation, construction and mining services for more than 10 years, owning a range of equipment, including excavators from one to 65 tons, skidsteers, dozers, graders, trucks and tippers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">Justin Stokes said that since the purchase of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.komatsu.com.au\/Pages\/Home.aspx\">Komatsu<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.komatsu.com.au\/Equipment\/Pages\/Dozers%20-%20Crawl\/D61EXi-23.aspx\"> D61EXi-23<\/a> in March 2016, he could only describe its performance as great.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.komatsu.com.au\/AboutKomatsu\/NewsAndPublications\/Brochures\/New%20Equipment%20Brochures\/Dozer\/D61EXi%20PXi-23\/D61EXi_D61PXi-23_AESS853-02_CCi_88577.pdf\">CLICK HERE<\/a> for the\u00a0Komatsu\u00a0D61EXi-23 specifications.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cWe have no issues to report whatsoever; it does exactly what it was supposed to do,\u201d Justin said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s being used for a lot of our cut and fill work; the first site it was used on was for a large carpark project in Springfield where it made light work of shaping the construction site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cIt since moved on to housing development site where it has cut and filled over 15,000 cubic meters, and most recently it\u2019s shaping a small shopping village and service station on the Gold Coast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">Nyanda\u00a0initially used the\u00a0D61EXi-23\u00a0for bulk earthworks, but it quickly proved its capabilities beyond that.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/players.brightcove.net\/3879528182001\/f9e6fa37-4b28-4220-99f0-9d1ef037287b_default\/index.html?videoId=5448698771001\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cThe integrated GPS machine control system has proven to be extremely accurate and we have found ourselves being able to use it for final trim also,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cOverall, we have found the performance to be great. The machine has been more than capable of handling what we have thrown at it so far; it\u2019s always exciting taking it to a new site to see what it can do there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyanda.com.au\/home.php\">Nyanda<\/a> also runs two other pieces of gear fitted with aftermarket machine control, an excavator and grader.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">The machine control excavator is used for bulking and trimming, while the grader is typically used for final trimming via total station, with jobs ranging from carparks, sports ovals and roads, to basements, housing developments and the like.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cWe have been using machine control systems for coming on two years now in our other machines,\u201d Justin said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cIt was a little hit and miss to start with: file format problems, calibration issues, and damage to exposed sensors and cables causing some downtime.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cHowever, since moving to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.komatsu.com.au\/Equipment\/Pages\/Dozers%20-%20Crawl\/D61EXi-23.aspx\">D61EXi-23<\/a> with its integrated Topcon system, we have found it increases productivity, and has given us the ability to complete jobs we simply couldn\u2019t have done before,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cAs well, the integrated system requires almost no maintenance and yields consistent results day after day, while being user friendly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cHaving the system built in also means, there\u2019s no sensors or wires to worry about accidentally damaging and causing downtime.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11337\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11337\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-11337 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Komatsu-D61EXi-23.jpg\" alt=\"Komatsu-D61EXi-23\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Komatsu-D61EXi-23.jpg 400w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Komatsu-D61EXi-23-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11337\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">INTELLIGENT DECISION: Komatsu Australia\u2019s major account sales representative Alec Harries, Nyanda Excavations site manager David Parker, KAL Sales representative Tim Platt, and machine operator Jay Harrison with the new D61EXi-23.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">Currently the dozer is working along side both grader and excavators, making their job easier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cIn particular, final trim with the grader now is much easier as the Komatsu dozer\u2019s machine control system gets it very close to finished level \u2013 meaning less to trim and quicker to finish,\u201d Justin said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cAnd from the operator\u2019s point of view, comfort and ease of operation are both good \u2013 probably better than we expected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cWe keep the same operator on the machine where possible; he has come from a background in using dozers, and rates the Komatsu very highly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cIn fact, the machine is so intelligent that he has had to discard some of his previous teachings on a \u2018basic\u2019 dozer, and adopt the newer more intelligent ways of doing things \u2013 which yields a better result and causes less wear and strain on the machine,\u201d Justin said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">Fuel consumption on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.komatsu.com.au\/Equipment\/Pages\/Dozers%20-%20Crawl\/D61EXi-23.aspx\">D61EXi-23<\/a> was very much in line with what was expected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cThe Komtrax reports supplied monthly help us to understand how the machine is being operated, allowing us to see how we can be improving fuel consumption by using features like economy mode when performing light work, and auto mode when operating with machine control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cFrom a management point of view, the machine is efficient and reliable, and as a result it\u2019s saving time on site; basically the machine control system has been a simple set-and-forget for us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m used to constantly having issues arise with other machine control systems, so after working with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.komatsu.com.au\/Pages\/Home.aspx\">Komatsu<\/a> system it has been a pleasant surprise to find I don\u2019t have these issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">In terms of support and service with the new machine, particularly in the light of its new technology features, has been \u201csecond to none\u201d according to Justin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cWe couldn\u2019t fault the team at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.komatsu.com.au\/Pages\/Home.aspx\">Komatsu<\/a>; they are professional, knowledgable, and always available\u00a0to help at a minute\u2019s notice,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cAaron Marsh (Komatsu Australia\u2019s technology solution expert team manager, Smart Centre) knows the system inside out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-paragraph\">\u201cIf we ever have a problem or question he knows exactly what to do to correct it &#8211;
