{"id":1102,"date":"2016-04-21T01:10:32","date_gmt":"2016-04-21T01:10:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/?p=1102"},"modified":"2016-04-21T01:10:32","modified_gmt":"2016-04-21T01:10:32","slug":"kentucky-signs-construction-safety-pact-for-louisville-omni-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/kentucky-signs-construction-safety-pact-for-louisville-omni-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Kentucky signs construction safety pact for Louisville Omni project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labor.ky.gov\/Pages\/Labor-Home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kentucky Labor Cabinet<\/a> signed an agreement on Tuesday meant to keep hundreds of workers safe while building a new Omni hotel in downtown Louisville.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wdrb.com\/story\/31705962\/state-signs-construction-safety-pact-for-louisville-omni-project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Watch WDRB.com video here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cabinet officials established a \u201cconstruction partnership program\u201d with general contractor Brasfield &amp; Gorrie, the Louisville Building &amp; Construction Trades Council, and the AFL-CIO for the $289 million Omni project at Third Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard.<\/p>\n<p>The program allows the state\u2019s workplace training division to make routine visits to the construction site over the next 30 months, conducting audits at least four times a year and offering training, said Danny Vernon, Kentucky\u2019s partnership program manager.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1104 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/kentucky-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"kentucky\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/kentucky-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/kentucky.jpg 448w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Omni is expected to create about 765 construction jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe goal is for everybody to be safe and go home at night,\u201d Vernon said. \u201cThat\u2019s what we all want.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Omni joins 13 other construction projects in Kentucky with similar agreements, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walshgroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Walsh Construction<\/a>\u2019s downtown part of the Ohio River Bridges Project.<\/p>\n<p>Vernon said companies working on the project will be told in advance of state visits, which could involve as many as seven consultants spending several days on site. There won\u2019t be regular inspections, but Vernon said investigators still could probe \u201ca legitimate complaint, if there\u2019s a fatality, if there\u2019s an imminent danger situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Omni is paying slightly more than half of the project\u2019s cost, with state and local coffers contributing 48 percent in tax-increment financing, the land\u2019s value and money towards building a parking garage.
