We have people calling us about hotels all the time,\u201d said Mark Williamson, who owns the real estate and construction firm \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rwcre.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Randolph Williamson<\/a>\u00a0in the Atlanta, GA area.<\/p>\n<p>While business is good for construction companies such as Randolph Williamson, finding enough workers has been a challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Workers have disappeared and that is leading to project delays.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve been doing the construction business for 30 years and never seen it like this before,\u201d said Carl Heidle, with Randolph Williamson.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/index.php\/2016\/09\/01\/survey-23rds-of-contractors-experience-skilled-labor-shortage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SURVEY: 2\/3RDS OF CONTRACTORS EXPERIENCE SKILLED LABOR SHORTAGE<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/index.php\/2016\/08\/08\/construction-adds-14k-jobs-as-employers-boost-wages-weekly-hours-amid-labor-shortage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Construction adds 14K jobs as employers boost wages, weekly hours amid labor shortage<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>When the recession hit in 2008 many construction workers switched careers when things dried up or they got out of the business altogether.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are not coming back because they are fully retired. In that eight years, people didn\u2019t come into business because there were no jobs,\u201d Williamson said.<\/p>\n<p>Heidle said recruiting companies are having trouble.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are recruiting from everywhere and can\u2019t come up with people,\u201d Heidle said.<\/p>\n<p>Heidle said instead of looking outside the area, recruiters have shown up at local construction sites to poach already-employed workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA recruiter showed up and offered everybody $5 more an hour to go work downtown. Iron workers are still a problem, along with framers,\u201d Heidle said.<\/p>\n<p>Heidle said, &#8220;most workers in the Atlanta area are at SunTrust or Mercedes Benz stadium.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Along with the stadium projects, Piedmont Hospital is now working on a $600 million expansion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s going to take a lot of people to do,\u201d Williamson said.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Williamson said jobs that were taking nine months to complete are now taking 13 to 14 months because he can\u2019t get workers like before the recession.<\/p>\n<p>The labor shortage also means that as the projects take longer, traffic around them will continue to be slow going.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10400 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Randolph-Williamson.png\" alt=\"Randolph-Williamson\" width=\"192\" height=\"54\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Construction company are dealing with a major labor shortage, it seems everywhere you look, another apartment building or hotel is going up, and the demand for workers is skyrocketing. \u201cThe volume of work has picked up for everybody.
