The new offshore highway connects Saint Denis, the administrative capital of La R\u00e9union, with La Possession.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yC-hNbeqkkA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Related-<a href=\"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/index.php\/2016\/05\/11\/largest-offshore-overhead-travel-crane-manufactured-by-enerpac-sets-sail-for-reunion-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Largest offshore overhead travel crane manufactured by Enerpac Sets Sail for Reunion Island<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"ContentEditor\">\n<p>This is a significant project and involves the use of a large fleet of heavy machinery. <span class=\"glossary-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.manitowoccranes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manitowoc<\/a><\/span>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manitowoccranes.com\/en\/cranes\/grove\/about-grove\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grove<\/a> and <span class=\"glossary-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.manitowoccranes.com\/en\/cranes\/potain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Potain<\/a><\/span> cranes are working together to help build the new coastal road around Reunion Island. 16 cranes of various types are being used on the island, located to the east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile equipment from <span class=\"glossary-item\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.enerpac.com\/en-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Enerpac<\/a><\/span> is playing a key role in constructing a viaduct.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10100 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Enerpac.png\" alt=\"Enerpac\" width=\"290\" height=\"33\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the most complex aspects of the work is the construction of the 5.4km viaduct on columns rising out from the Indian Ocean. This is being built so that it will be able to withstand 144km\/h hurricane winds as well as waves of up to 10m in height.<\/p>\n<p>The project is being carried out by French consortium <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bouygues-tp.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"glossary-item\">Bouygues<\/span> Travaux Publics<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vinci-construction-projects.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vinci Construction Grands Projets<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dodincampenonbernard.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dodin Campenon Bernard<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.demathieu-bard.fr\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Demathieu Bard Construction<\/a>. Once complete, this will be the most expensive road\/km funded by France.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10108 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Bouygues-Travaux-Publics.jpg\" alt=\"Bouygues-Travaux-Publics\" width=\"196\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10102 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/VINCI-Construction-Grands-Projets-1.png\" alt=\"VINCI Construction Grands Projets\" width=\"282\" height=\"57\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10103 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Dodin-Campenon-Bernard.jpg\" alt=\"Dodin Campenon Bernard\" width=\"74\" height=\"72\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10104 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Demathieu-Bard-Construction.jpg\" alt=\"Demathieu Bard Construction\" width=\"300\" height=\"88\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The tower crane fleet comprises of two Potain MD 485B M20s, two MDT 368 As, one MD 560 B, a Potain K5-50C. \u00a0Also one site is a Manitowoc 12000E-1 crawler crane, seven Grove all-terrain cranes and two Grove rough-terrain cranes.<\/p>\n<p>The 16 cranes were supplied by contractors Vinci Construction Grands Projets and Bouygues TP which own some of the units and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gli-grues-reunion.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grues Levages Investissements (GLI)<\/a> which also provided cranes for this high-profile project on rental contracts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10106 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Grues-Levages-Investissements-GLI-1.jpg\" alt=\"Grues-Levages-Investissements-(GLI)\" width=\"185\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>GLI is Manitowoc\u2019s official French dealer for Reunion Island, Mayotte and Mauritius and has invested heavily in supplying the cranes for this project.<\/p>\n<p>The colossal project faces many challenges as the structure is being built on a maritime site, explained Christophe Simoncelli, Manitowoc vice president of sales for Western Europe and French speaking Africa,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cManitowoc has provided exceptional crane solutions as well as a proactive approach to managing this project,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Potain MD 485B M20 is a 20ton capacity top-slewing tower crane, with an 80m jib. It has been fitted with a 60m boom and is working at a height of 45m. The MDT 368 A is the largest of the topless MDT range with a maximum jib length of 75m while the MD 560 B is a 25ton capacity tower crane and can lift up to 5.4tonnes at jib end. The Potain k5-50C is a 20tonne capacity tower crane with a 60m jib length.<\/p>\n<p>The Manitowoc 12000E-1 is a 110-ton capacity crawler crane and is fitted with a 70m boom.<\/p>\n<p>The Grove all-terrain cranes on the project include a GMK2035, a GMK3060, a GMK4080-1, a GMK 5130-2, a GMK4100L, a GMK3055 and a GMK5220 \u2013 these cranes range in lifting capacity from 35tons to 220tons.<\/p>\n<p>The two rough-terrain cranes on the jobsite are an RT540E and an RT760E. The RT540E comes equipped with a 9.8-31m four-section full power boom while the RT760E offers a 55tonne maximum capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The project is also using the world\u2019s largest offshore overhead travel crane. This unit has been developed and manufactured by Enerpac and has been mounted on the Zourite jack-up barge.<\/p>\n<p>The Enerpac Over Head Travel Crane (OHTC) comprises two pairs of lifting beams, with an overall width of 30m, and a lifting capacity of 4,800tonnes for lifting, moving and lowering the concrete blocks for the offshore highway.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"esctl_9342108_pnlAssetHolder\" class=\"oAssetInline oAssetRight\">\n<div id=\"esctl_9342108_pnlAssetImgHolder\" class=\"clear\">\n<div class=\"asset\">\n<div style=\"width: 472px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.worldhighways.com\/EasysiteWeb\/getresource.axd?AssetID=121949&amp;type=custom&amp;servicetype=Inline&amp;customSizeId=14\" alt=\"A wide array of cranes is being used on road construction work \" width=\"462\" height=\"213\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A wide array of cranes is being used on road construction work<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"caption\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"esctl_9342108_pnlAssetCaption\" class=\"caption\">The Zourite jack-up barge has been transported to Reunion Island aboard the Offshore Heavy Transport\u2019s Hawk semi-submersible vessel. The Over Head Travel Crane (OHTC) comprises two pairs of lifting beams, with an overall width of 30m, and a lifting capacity of 4,800 tonnes for lifting, moving and lowering the concrete blocks for the offshore highway.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ContentEditor\">\n<p>The Enerpac OHTC will be used on the Zourite jack-up barge. Lifting and lowering is accomplished with a reeved winch system, based on eight grooved drum winches.<\/p>\n<p>Longitudinal travelling of the gantry uses a trolley arrangement comprising two trolleys per lifting beam. Each trolley is propelled with hydraulic drive motors and planetary gearboxes. The wheels run on two parallel rails bolted onto the barge\u2019s runway beams. Currently, the road is forced to close up to 40 times\/year due to landslides and high waves.<\/p>\n<p>The new highway is expected to better cope with traffic demands, as well as being more resilient. The viaduct mounted on columns in the sea will not be subject to closure due to landslides.
