However Darren Fishel, county road supervisor, said he was not familiar with the brand. He recommended commissioners instead purchase a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deere.com\/en_US\/products\/equipment\/excavators\/210g_lc_ft4\/210g_lc_ft4.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Deere 210G LC<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/murphytractor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Murphy Tractor<\/a>, of Topeka, for $236,900 \u2014 about $60,000 more.<\/p>\n<p>Bids included the cost of the excavator, guaranteed repair and maintenance costs plus a repurchase option after seven years or 500,000 hours.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">What <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/excavator?src=hash\">#excavator<\/a> should Saline <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Kansas?src=hash\">#Kansas<\/a> County Commissioners purchase? Murphy\u2019s bid was $236,900 with a $100,000 repurchase price, for $136,900 net cost. \u00a0Kough representative Matt Crawford, who made the nine-hour drive from Farmington to attend the meeting, said he could send an excavator to the Road and Bridge Department to be tested for a week.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019m skeptical. I know with Murphy Tractor if there is a breakdown we\u2019ll have equipment sitting at the gate,\u201d Fishel said. \u201cThe county has owned several John Deere excavators over the years and they have proven to be reliable and dependable. John Deere equipment is quality machinery which we know will hold its value.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4>Bids include repurchase<\/h4>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d be in favor of taking him up on the demonstration,\u201d said Commissioner Luci Larson.<\/p>\n<p>Fishel said Sany brand excavators are relatively new in the U.S. construction market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have no data history to verify the reliability of the machine or the quality of its construction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"tncms-region-article_instory_middle\" class=\"tncms-region hidden-print\">According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salina.com\/news\/local\/county-to-test-drive-excavator\/article_5ccfe243-f679-5ab9-8e28-a57a2d19b088.html#comments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Salina<\/a>, Commissioner John Price was concerned about purchasing equipment that the county might have difficulty getting parts for in 10 years.<\/div>\n<p>Crawford said Kough has been in businesses since 1962. He said the bid includes a maintenance and repair agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have lowered the price down to get the Sany name out,\u201d Crawford said.
