{"id":10015,"date":"2017-01-25T20:19:39","date_gmt":"2017-01-25T20:19:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/minutes.machine.market\/?p=10015"},"modified":"2017-01-25T20:19:39","modified_gmt":"2017-01-25T20:19:39","slug":"200-ton-tunnel-boring-machine-lifted-with-500-and-700-ton-demag-all-terrain-cranes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/200-ton-tunnel-boring-machine-lifted-with-500-and-700-ton-demag-all-terrain-cranes\/","title":{"rendered":"200-ton Tunnel Boring Machine Lifted with 500 and 700-ton Demag All Terrain Cranes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.msg-kran.de\/de\/inhalt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSG Krandienst GmbH<\/a> loaded a 200-ton drive system for a tunnel boring machine from a heavy goods vehicle to a ship at the Rhine port of Kehl for\u00a0Herrenknecht AG. \u00a0MSG used a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terex.com\/cranes\/en\/products-demag\/all-terrain-cranes\/AC500-8\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Demag AC 500-8<\/a> and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terex.com\/cranes\/en\/products-demag\/all-terrain-cranes\/AC700-9\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Demag AC 700-9<\/a> for the tandem lift.<\/p>\n<p>The MSG team arrived with the two Demag cranes, three trucks, and an escort vehicle early in the morning. \u00a0The team\u2019s preparation work went smoothly: A total of four MSG team members needed only two hours per crane in order to get the machines ready for the lift.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10019\" src=\"https:\/\/cranemarket.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/MSG-Krandienst-GmbH-Demag-AC-500-8-Demag-AC-700-9-1.jpg\" alt=\"MSG Krandienst GmbH-Demag-AC 500-8-Demag AC 700-9\" width=\"748\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/MSG-Krandienst-GmbH-Demag-AC-500-8-Demag-AC-700-9-1.jpg 748w, https:\/\/machine.market\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/MSG-Krandienst-GmbH-Demag-AC-500-8-Demag-AC-700-9-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In order to lift the 200-tonne load, the MSG team determined the best crane configuration for the lift consisted of using a boom length of 25.5 meters (84 ft.) and a counterweight of 100 tons on the AC 700-9 all terrain crane. The star-shaped outrigger bases, which were extended to a length of twelve meters, provided the necessary stability. These bases are designed to attain a high level of stiffness while minimizing the amount of deformation that occurs when lifting loads. For the AC 500-8 all terrain crane, the team used a boom length of 24 meters (79 ft.) and a counterweight of 140 tonnes and extended the outrigger bases to a length of 9.60 meters (31 ft.). The AC 500-8 crane picked up the tunnel boring machine drive system with nine-part reeving at the hook.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A perfectly coordinated tandem lift<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt all came down to how our two crane operators were able to work together with utmost accuracy. They had to stay perfectly coordinated in order to ensure that the weight would remain properly distributed between both cranes at all times,\u201d explains Reinhard Schmitt, crane operator of the AC 700-9. A challenge, to be sure, but the crane operators\u2019 experience and the high precision of the Demag cranes being used helped that it was easily overcome.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This made it possible to use a working radius of 14 meters to lift the drive system off from the heavy goods vehicle, move it over the ship, and then carefully put it down there.
