Update on the Major Damage caused after a Containership Ship Crashes into Gantry Crane at the Suez Canal: Photos & Video

Major damage at Suez Canal Container Terminal in Egypt’s Port Said caused by a containership crashing into a gantry crane as it was leaving the port.

The the Hong Kong-flagged COSCO Hope was involved.

Several cranes collapsed and are  damaged, along with containers knocked over and some on fire.

A few reports said that hazardous chemicals in one of the containers caused a large explosion at the site.

The accident happened shortly after midnight on Tuesday when the stern of the vessel backed into a crane, causing it to tip over

Reportedly some workers were injured in the accident, but no deaths have been reported.
