Police say a tire blowout is to blame for a crane that rolled and tipped near the Gold Coast.

Two men were injured when the mobile crane lost control and crashed through a fence at Pimpama yesterday morning.

The 57-year-old driver’s ear was severed during the ordeal after he became trapped in the cabin.

His 44-year-old passenger – who was thrown from the vehicle – suffered pelvis, shoulder and neck injuries.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed one man had been rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with head injuries.
