While an estimated cost has yet to be determined of a Freeport Container Port (FCP) crane that was damaged by a fire early Sunday morning, officials confirmed yesterday the matter is under investigation.

This daily learned of the blaze shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Crane #3.

Speaking to a reliable source, close to the incident, The Freeport News was assured that there were no injuries and FCP officials and employees moved quickly to contain and extinguish the fire.

Details of how the fire started remained sketchy; however, according to FCP officials, “active safety measures and a timely response ensured minimum damage and no injuries. The incident did not interrupt operations.”

An industrial independent consultant noted, “While early findings are being assessed, investigations continue.”

Officials at the FCP stressed that safety remains a priority at the facility.
