The two men killed were 53 year old Bart Vink and 61 year old Jos Relou. A third man Remco van Bogget (24) was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. He is not in life threatening danger.
The men were working for the construction company Wynen Bouw the press release from the company states.
PRESS RELEASE MAY 3, 2016- Around 13:15 pm, in Zaltbommel on a construction site a industrial accident occurred in which Jos Relou and Bart Vink (assistant Raijmakers Someren) have been killed and Remco van Bogget seriously injured. The police and the labor inspectorate are investigating the circumstances of the accident. At the moment, our attention and sympathy is with the families of the victims. We wish all our colleagues, strength and more information will follow.
The men were working on the renovation of the Van der Valk Hotel on Hogeweg in Zaltbommel. They were suspended from what looks to be a Merlo telehandler to hang a Wijnen Bouwgroup banner on the building’s facade when the accident happened.
“They were attached to the crane with a line and wearing helmets. But then suddenly, for unexplained reasons, the whole box came down.” Wijnen spokesperson Harrie Beukers said to the newspaper. “Incomprehensible”.
A total of eight workers were at the hotel when the accident happened. The other workers did not see the fall, but found the men lying on the ground after hearing a huge blow.
