PEORIA – Caterpillar officials say they plan on relocating the manufacture of several large mining truck components from its Winston-Salem, North Carolina facility to the Decatur, Illinois facility.
The announcement was included in a release from Caterpillar, Inc. Thursday night. Officials also say they plan on discontinuing production of track drills, as well as making reductions in the workforce at the Houston, Pennsylvania facility, with the possibility of closing the Houston facility altogether. Total workforce reductions are expected to be about 155 positions.
The release also states the company will stop taking new orders for room and pillar underground mining products, but that existing room and pillar and track drill fleets in operation will still be supported.
The Decatur CAT facility will manufacture the components due to the Winston-Salem location transitioning to a rail facility later this year.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
