Florida Mechanical Crane Rental assembled the All Terrain crane used Wednesday to place a new heating and cooling unit onto the roof at The Plaza Condominium at Berkman Plaza and Marina.
While the lift took only a few minutes, it was a three-day project to set up the crane, install the HVAC unit and remove the crane, said Wayne Thigpen, commercial estimator at Thigpen Heating & Cooling Inc.
The 600,000-BTU packaged rooftop unit weighs 18,000 pounds and will heat and cool the common areas and elevators in the condominium tower.
Thigpen said his company started planning the project three months ago, working with the city and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to schedule the job when it would disrupt traffic as little as possible.
