Manitowoc Crane Group plant in Shady Grove, PA has again laid off workers. Brian Smith, director of human resources, confirmed the layoff which has affected approximately 85 employees in the production departments.
“The cause of the layoff is due to the continued downturn in the economy,” commented Smith, who added that if the economy were to improve, there could be an opportunity for the people who were laid off to return to work.
The layoff took place Friday, Oct. 14. The layoffs contradicts previous statements in August, 2016 that the relocation of the crawler crane production from Manitowoc’s factory in Wisconsin to Shady Grove, PA factory would create 250 new jobs.

Manitowoc Crane Group, founded as Grove Manufacturing in 1947, is still one of Franklin County, Pennsylvania’s top employers.
