WOODS HOLE — A construction worker was flown to an off-Cape hospital Thursday after he was struck by heavy equipment at a Woods Hole site, according to Falmouth fire and police officials.
A large piece of heavy construction equipment was backing up when it hit and seriously injured the worker. The man was working with the contractor JK Scanlan.
Rescuers were called to Woods Hole Golf Club at around 3 p.m., Fire Capt. Bruce Girouard said. A 47-year-old man suffered multiple traumatic injuries after being hit by equipment as it was backing up, police and fire officials said.
Rescuers brought the man, who was working on new construction at the club, to the helicopter pad at Falmouth Hospital and he was flown by medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Girouard said. It was not clear if the injuries were life-threatening, he said.
Because it was a workplace injury, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified and will be investigating, police said.
